Palliative Care Delivery in a Hospice Setting: Educational Visits to Ganga Prem Hospice – Providing Care and Comfort for the Terminally Ill
This week, Ganga Prem Hospice was honoured to host nursing students from three esteemed institutions as part of their palliative care field visit. These visits were designed to give students firsthand experience and insights into the compassionate care provided to terminally ill patients.
Shri Swami Bhumanand College of Nursing sent 54 third-semester students for their visit. The day began with a session by Dr. Camille Munro, who introduced the students to the essentials of palliative care and the critical role nurses play in delivering comfort and dignity. Afterward, the students participated in IPD rounds, where they observed real-life care provided to patients. The students also donated groceries to help support the hospice.

Next, Doon Institute of Medical Sciences (DIMS) brought 47 fourth-semester students. They attended educational sessions on palliative care, psycho-social aspects, and nutrition, led by our expert team. The students also performed a skit and musical performance for the patients, which was greatly appreciated by everyone. One patient even joined in to sing! In addition, they generously donated groceries to support the hospice.

Finally, Uttaranchal University brought 40 students, who participated in similar sessions on palliative care, psycho-social challenges, and nutrition. They also donated indoor games like Ludo, providing some much-needed recreational activities for our IPD patients.
Each group made meaningful contributions to Ganga Prem Hospice, not only through their eagerness to learn but also through their generous donations. We are truly grateful for their dedication and compassion, which have enhanced the well-being of our patients and enriched the educational journey of future palliative care nurses.
