Dhoolkot Village hears about Palliative Care

Far from the hustle of the Dehradun city, a cancer and hospice care awareness programme was organised in village Dhoolkot Mafi by the community outreach cell of DAVPG college, Dehradun.
The DAVPG college and Ganga Prem Hospice have an agreement to enhance education, research, training and community service in the field of palliative care and the 12000-strong student community of the college has been going out in the community spreading awareness about palliative care, and also visiting the hospice to spend time with the patients and present cultural activities.

Sai Sankalp school in village Dhoolkot

On November 21, members of ‘Prayas’, the community outreach cell of the college gathered in the Sai Sankalp school in village Dhoolkot to engage people in the topic of staying away from the drugs menace and get the residents talking about palliative and hospice care. A nukkad natak with role play showing a family’s discussions around cancer and the need for palliative care got the audience’s attention, especially that of the school children present there.
GPH’s medical social worker and senior palliative care nurse represented the hospice at the event, and spoke to the audience about the work of the organisation, particularly explaining the difference between a hospital and a hospice, which is often overlooked.
