Vision & Mission
Making the World a Better Place For All of Us
Our Vision of Ganga Prem Hospice
The stated vision of Shradha Cancer Care Trust and Ganga Prem Hospice is to help alleviate the physical and psychological discomfort associated with progressive and incurable cancer in Uttarakhand and India.
Death is more than just a physical event. Care at Ganga Prem Hospice touches every aspect of a patient’s life: physical, emotional, spiritual and social.
The hospice creates a caring and supportive environment in which patients can pass through this transition with a minimum of distress.
What We Stand For
The Physical Aspect
At the Ganga Prem Hospice first-class medical facilities ensures maximum control over pain and other symptoms. We offer allopathic as well as complementary and alternative therapies. We have a team of both professional healthcare workers and trained volunteers to care for our patients.
The Emotional Aspect
Ganga Prem Hospice provide a sympathetic atmosphere in which people at the end of their lives can review how they are living and dying. For many, death is a time of memories and regrets. Patients and families are helped to face, understand and finally let go of emotional problems that they have been carrying for years.
The Spiritual Aspect
Death is a time when the transitory nature of the physical self becomes starkly evident. It is therefore often a time of questioning and learning. For some, it is a time to reconcile the limited time and space of their own lives with vast concepts like Eternity and Infinity. As death approaches, people often feel the need to acknowledge a Higher Power in which they can take refuge. Ganga Prem Hospice provides spiritual support for its patients and families to journey through this challenging time.
The Social Aspect
Ganga Prem Hospice also pays close attention to the social needs of our patients and their families. It is particularly evident in less developed countries that practical needs e.g. food, clothing, housing, childcare etc can be a source of deep anxiety and suffering to the patient and family. We endeavour to relieve such distress through liaison with other local bodies e.g. NGO’s, government departments, orphanages, elderly residential homes etc.
The Goals of Ganga Prem Hospice
We have built a hospice for terminally ill cancer patients on the bank of the river Ganga at the foot of the Himalaya. It is situated between the towns of Rishikesh and Haridwar. We started the hospice with a simple infrastructure, basic equipment and a patient capacity of 10-15 beds. Our final goal, however, is a hospice with a capacity of serving 30 terminally ill cancer patients. The hospice is now furnished with all necessary modern facilities for dealing with every aspect of medical care and nursing of the terminally ill. Whenever appropriate, Ganga Prem Hospice offers the option of holistic approaches (such as Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Aromatherapy and meditation techniques etc.) for the relief of pain and other symptoms. The hospice has aesthetically designed areas for the cultural and spiritual care and support for the patients and their families.
Our hospice has become an ideal example of palliative care and support for the terminally ill and as such we hope to inspire others to open similar, much needed centres throughout India.
Summary of the Hospice Goals:
