Manpreet’s Story

Manpreet

This is a story of a thirteen-year-old girl named Manpreet Kaur from Rishikesh. Manpreet Kaur, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma with metastatic brain cancer, and her mother, Rajvinder Kaur, shared her heart-wrenching story. Manpreet was affectionately called “Mannu” or “Mann” by her family; she was the heart and soul of their home.

Even after getting a referral to the hospice from AIIMS Rishikesh, Rajvinder was still  not aware of the services provided by Ganga Prem Hospice until the team visited her home and suggested admitting her daughter due to her worsening condition. Witnessing their daughter becoming bedridden and irritable, Rajvinder decided to go for hospice admission.

On the day of admission, Manpreet could barely move or sit up. She was unable to talk or even go to the washroom, and the family was desperate for help. However, after admitting her to Ganga Prem Hospice, the team’s care and medication brought a sense of relaxation to Manpreet’s face, and her family was overjoyed.

The team at Ganga Prem Hospice went above and beyond their duty to cater to Manpreet’s needs, including fulfilling her requests for pasta and helping her to take a walk in the garden or to paint or to draw. The nurses, doctors, and staff treated the family with kindness and compassion, providing emotional support during the difficult time. Her mother  shared how much she  admired the nurses at the hospice because after so many days she was able to see  Manptreet relaxed.

Even though Manpreet’s condition was worsening, she was able to talk and smile again. Rajvinder expressed her gratitude to the Ganga Prem Hospice team, saying that they had made Manpreet’s last days comfortable and peaceful. The team even fulfilled her last wish to play Holi (festival of colors) with her whole family and made this last Holi celebration special not only for Manpreet but for all of the family.

Sadly, Manpreet passed away on April 5th, 2024. The emotional goodbye was not just a struggle for the family but also for the staff at Ganga Prem Hospice, who had grown close to Manpreet during her stay. Rajvinder acknowledged that the team had been a source of comfort and support during the last time, and that their kindness would never be forgotten.
