Art therapy can be a useful tool for improving the quality of life for individuals living with cancer. Not only does it allow patients to express their thoughts and feelings, but it also helps them relax and find peace amidst the turmoil that they may be experiencing. Mandala art therapy in particular is an abstract and easy outlet for creative self-expression. The Sanskrit word “mandala” means “circle”. In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, mandalas are often used as sacred symbols representing different conceptions of the universe.
On 09.06.2023, a mandala artist named Ms. Bhairvee Singh Markande from Dehradun led a complementary mandala drawing session for cancer patients and their caregivers at Ganga Prem Hospice. During the two hour session, Ms Markande guided the participants to create beautiful colored circular designs with a variety of tools such as pencils, paints, and markers.
Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to relax and socialize on the broad hospice veranda for an afternoon of creative expression and laughter. As a token of appreciation, GPH Dr. Taranjit Singh presented Ms. Markande with a formal letter of gratitude.
