Ganga Prem Hospice offers exciting job opportunities for both volunteers and salaried staff. Working with the terminally ill is an exploration of life itself, and Ganga Prem understands this.

The well-knit Hospice team made up of professionals of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds provides every aspect of palliative care—medical, emotional, social and spiritual—to its patients, who also come from many different social, economic and religious sections of society.

Working for Ganga Prem Hospice in the beautiful foothills of the Himalayan mountains could be an opportunity of a lifetime. The town of Rishikesh and the surrounding area is known for its cultural, holistic and spiritual traditions. The upcoming in-patient facility is being built near Rishikesh, in a quiet, rural setting on the bank of the holy river Ganga.

Vacancies

 

1. Qualified social worker needed. Full time.

A compassionate and caring social worker is needed to help end-stage cancer patients and their families through the work of Ganga Prem Hospice.

Minimum qualifications: MSW/ MA Psychology/ MA Sociology

Skills preferred: Computer proficiency, especially MS Office, MS Excel

Site: Raiwala, Rishikesh

Responsibilities: The applicant must be able to adapt to different work settings. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Counselling and psychological and social support to terminally ill cancer patients, and their family members, at the hospice inpatient facility, home care, and cancer clinics;
  2. Home visits to cancer patients in Rishikesh, Dehradun, Haridwar, along with the Ganga Prem Hospice health care team or on one’s own, as may be directed by GPH management;
  3. Careful and diligent assessment of patients’ psychological, mental, emotional, socio-economic conditions;
  4. Close coordination with the rest of Ganga Prem Hospice team on patient -care work;
  5. Maintaining detailed work records, assessment forms, etc.;
  6. Supporting patients in applying for financial support;
  7. Supporting patients in hospital admission, etc;
  8. Maintaining completely non-partisan viewpoint when assessing patients for support.

Salary: Rs. 10,000 or onwards depending upon qualification and experience (for full-time position)

The successful candidate will undergo training in palliative care.

 

2. General doctor needed. Part time or full time.

A compassionate and caring doctor is needed to serve end-stage cancer patients through the work of Ganga Prem Hospice.

Minimum qualification: MBBS. Experience in the field of cancer or palliative care preferred.

Skills preferred: Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, Internet browsing, etc)

Responsibilities: The applicant must be able to adapt to different work settings. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Providing palliative care to cancer patients, particularly advanced stage;
  2. Organizing and running a palliative care clinic;
  3. Conducting home care visits to end-stage cancer patients;
  4. Organizing and running general clinics in rural areas at or near the Hospice site; and
  5. Future work includes working in an in-patient setting at the proposed Hospice (near Raiwala, Rishikesh).

Salary: Rs. 30,000 onwards depending upon qualification and experience (for full-time position)

3. Volunteer doctors and nurses needed. Part time or full time. Long or short term.

Qualified volunteer doctors and nurses are needed in Rishikesh for the Ganga Prem Hospice home care programme. A compassionate and caring nature is essential. Knowledge of Hindi preferred. Doctors and nurses will need to look after their own lodging and food arrangements.

4. Volunteer for office work. Part time or full time. Long or short term.

A volunteer is needed at the GPH office in Rishikesh to help with simple office work. Basic computer knowledge and a good command of English is essential. The work includes data entry for cancer clinics and home care services. The volunteer will need to look after his/her own lodging and food arrangements.
