Dr Brenda Ward

Dr Brenda is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine from Birmingham, England. She qualified in medicine at Bristol University in 1995 and initially trained as a General Practitioner. Whilst working as a GP, she found caring for people with life-limiting illnesses both challenging and rewarding and sought to extend her knowledge and practice. Recognising the privilege of providing palliative care to such patients and their families, she studied for a Masters degree in Palliative Care and went on to re-train in order to specialise in this branch of medicine in the West Midlands. Returning to the south west of England, she worked as a consultant at St Margaret's Hospice, Somerset from 2009-13.

In 2013, Brenda decided to take a break from working in the UK. Having recently taken part in a charity trek for her workplace to the Indian Himalayas, she sought to spend time again in this region. An internet search led her to Ganga Prem Hospice. She volunteered to assist the team at GPH to expand their knowledge of palliative medicine, spending four months in Rishikesh. Inspired by the whole team, she returned again in 2014 to continue this role for several months and plans to return there regularly inspiring other experienced health care professionals to join in this work.

Brenda is delighted to be part of an organisation that allows her to combine her love of India, passion for palliative care and interest in spirituality.

She also enjoys travelling, walking, using the gym and spending time with family.
