Dr Rajesh Saxena
Ganga Prem Hospice
|Dr Rajesh Saxena
Dr Rajesh Saxena is
one of the two Ganga Prem Hospice doctors who
specialize in gynaecology. Having been a resident
and a much-experienced doctor of Rishikesh for
thirty years, Dr Saxena was looking to take a
break from her busy private practice clinic when
she came to know of the Ganga Prem Hospice cancer
clinic. Dr Saxena first came to the Hospice clinic
as a volunteer but then was asked to become one
of the Hospice's consulting gynaecologists,
to which she readily agreed.
In her private practice, Dr Saxena would see cancer
patients on several occasions. "Generally,
there were patients of breast, cervix and uterine
cancer who would come from all over Garhwal. Then
there were no cancer treatment or consultation
facilties at all in Rishikesh and we would refer
patients to Chandigarh for treatment," says
Dr Saxena. Now, Dr Saxena's son and daughter-in-law,
who are also medical professionals, run a diagnostic
centre and clinic and this gives Dr Saxena more
time to be on her own and work at her own pace.
"The Ganga Prem Hospice clinic experience
has been nice. Patients with cancer malignancy
as well as other disease's patients get free of
charge consultation which is very useful,"
says Dr Saxena.
The 73-year old gynaecologist comes from a family
of doctors. Her father was a doctor based in Rishikesh
while Dr Saxena spent her initial years of work
in Solan, Himachal Pradesh where she was with
the Central Health Services. "When I settled
in Rishikesh, I worked day and night at my clinic
at Triveni Ghat. We have seen many cancer patients
and now with modern diagnostic facilities, we
see that patients are more aware of their condition
and disease and want to get it treated,"
says Dr Saxena.
In her leisure time, the septuagenarian doctor
likes to read and makes it a point to keep herself
physically fit by exercising twice a day.
